Been there, done that: Trails to Azure revisits a lot of places from Trails From Zero.On the plus side, it’s quite good, replete with a good amount of twists and turns that’ll keep you engaged. The story: Trails to Azure has a pretty chunky narrative.It’s just nice to play a game with likable characters.
The characters: One of the best things about Trails to Azure is its cast.If you fall in the former camp, this is one of the best renditions of classic turn-based combat. The combat: Turn-based combat is one of those things where you either love it or hate it.Trails to Azure boasts some really nice retro visuals that are akin to video game comfort food today - with one key caveat that I’ll get to later. Old-school aesthetics: Don’t let its PSP-based origins fool you.The result is a visual style that combines the look of 2D sprites with 3D modeling, which retro gaming lovers might consider the best of both worlds.Īdd its rock-solid turn-based combat and you’ve got a JRPG that hits all the right spots for old-school gamers. Trails to Azure originally came out in 2011 - on the Playstation Portable, no less. Like Trails From Zero, The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure’s look harkens back to what some would consider the golden age of classic JRPGs.
